Hello fellow travelers!

I hope you’re all having a wonderful (and not to stressful) time preparing for this adventure. I’ll start by introducing myself, I’m Lori, a senior…and I hope to be “walking” this time next year!
In addition, I have lived in Espana as a mom with my husband and our 3 boys. Although having lived in Madrid, my vocabulary was limited to grocery store survival Spanish such as, “un medio kilo de queso,” in contrast to, “un kilo y media de queso,” which is what I asked for the first time I bought cheese by myself. It goes without saying that the men in my life had grilled cheese sandwiches for a number of weeks….oops!

However, in spite of suffering some humiliation, I have wonderful memories of Spain. For mother’s day, my son gave me a book of poetry by Federico Garcia Lorca. In it I found a poem called “Paisaje,” and I was immediately taken back on a road trip to AndalucĂa. We were on a road less traveled…maybe even lost, when we came upon an olive tree orchard. There we saw an old famer tending to his trees. My husband decided to just stop and talk to this old Spaniard and ask him about his trees. He was a little taken back, but then he proceeded to tell us about his trees. What a wonderful, peaceful afternoon!

I hope you all have the curiosity of the very young and find your own ol’ Spaniard to tell you tells of the magical past of this fine country.

Dos bessos,
Lori
